Myth #3 – Introverts are rude
Introverts often don’t see a reason for beating around the bush with social pleasantries. They want everyone to just be real and honest. Unfortunately, this is not acceptable in most settings, so Introverts can feel a lot of pressure to fit in, which they find exhausting.
People close to me know not to ask my opinion unless they want the truth. I don’t sugar coat things. It does get me in trouble because I don’t realize I do it. I have gotten better about not just saying the first thing that comes to mind. However, I still don’t fib or sugar coat so it usually ends up with me just staring in silence trying to think of a polite way to put it.
A big problem this creates for me is that I realize that most people don’t think the way I do so I cannot trust their answers when I ask for an opinion. If they say something nice I jump to the conclusion that they are not genuine.
And I really do want everyone to just be real and honest.
